SKU / An identifying number that refers to a specific item in a company's inventory log (accessed by the UPC).
The SKU contains information about a product's description, manufacturer, stock level, and price. It is most often used in warehouses as an inventory control system. However a SKU also allows retailers to locate merchandise and identify merchandise through their POS systems.
