// SELVEDGE

SELVEDGE / The main process in constructing a superior fabric during manufacturing; it is an edge that is woven onto fabric during production that prevents the fabric from unraveling.

The selvedge process began in the late 1800's on narrow looms - producing a natural edge that prevents fabric from unraveling after being worn. Lesser quality denim does not use the selvedge process. Brands that use the quantity over quality method use larger looms* that leave thread with loose ends after production.

* Hint: larger looms allow for decreased production time, increasing a brand's financial gain -
   (thus quantity over quality).
